Reupholstering furniture involves both the cover and what lies beneath it. If the fabric is worn but the furniture is still comfortable, re-covering may be suitable. If the seat has collapsed or feels uneven, the construction under the fabric also needs assessment.
The terms reupholstery, furniture upholstery and re-covering are often used to describe the same task. In your quote, it is more important to describe the specific parts: cover, foam or other filling, base, seams and any disassembly.

Fabric and leather must suit the usage
Begin with the daily life surrounding the furniture. Will the chair be used at the dining table every day? Should the upholstery match other furniture? Do you desire a smooth, structured or soft surface? The material choice affects both appearance, maintenance and price.
Upholstery fabric should be assessed as a whole. Colour, weave, abrasion data, cleaning instructions and any pattern repeat are relevant. A screen may not reproduce the colour accurately, so ask about a material sample before making your final choice. If you want leather, its grade, surface and expected variation should be considered.
Do you have a specific fabric yourself? Then its suitability and necessary quantity must be confirmed before you buy it. Fabric consumption also depends on direction, pattern, width and how the furniture is constructed.
Comfort also concerns the base
A new upholstery does not fix a loose construction. If a chair creaks, wobbles, or has a seat that gives significantly, the cause must be investigated. Describe the feeling when sitting in the furniture, and specify whether the change has come gradually or after a specific event.
If the damage is in the wood or frame, furniture repair is a separate part of the work. Upholstery and structural work can be included in one enquiry, but both must be clearly described in the agreed scope.
How much does reupholstery cost?
The price depends on the furniture's size, access to the upholstery, material consumption and the work of removing and fitting the cover. Replacement of filling, buttons, edges and details can change the scope. The number of identical pieces is also relevant, but there is no automatic quantity price without a concrete agreement.

Send an enquiry describing the whole job
Take photos from the front, from the side, and from underneath if it can be photographed without disassembling the item. Also show wear, stitching, loose parts, and any labels. State the quantity and tell us what you wish to preserve.
For example, write: 'Six chairs with loose seats. New fabric on all six. Two seats feel flat, and one frame is loose.' This makes it possible to distinguish material choice from necessary repairs and agree on the next step on a clear basis.
