Repairing a 7’er-chair

Get the damage on your 7'er chair assessed

Repairing a 7’er-chair depends on the location and extent of the damage. A loose connection between the frame and seat is a different job from a crack in the shell or a change of finish.

Therefore, describe the symptom before the solution. Write what is moving where there is visible damage, and whether the chair has previously been repaired. If it feels unstable or has a visible break, it should be taken out of use until it is assessed.

Shell, frame and cover are three different parts

Area Information for the assessment
Shell and back The crack's location, visible layers, previous damage, and whether the shape has changed.
Frame and fastening Where the movement is perceived, loose parts and clear damage on the underside.
Cover and padding Wear, holes, comfort and any areas that hide damage.

A crack cannot be assessed reliably from a model name. Do not bend the back further to take a picture of the damage. Instead, photograph the chair at rest from several angles.

The images that help most

  1. The whole chair from the front and from the side.
  2. Entire back of the shell.
  3. Close-up images of the damage and surrounding area.
  4. The underside with frame and fastening, if you can photograph it safely.
  5. Manufacturer mark or other identification information.

Please specify the number of chairs. If only one is damaged, mark it clearly. If you have a loose part, store it with the chair and show it on a separate image.

What can be preserved?

Clarify whether the aim is to preserve the existing finish, obtain a stable chair or combine the repair with new upholstery. A structural repair may leave marks that do not disappear with surface treatment. No specific strength, invisibility or lifespan can be guaranteed based on images alone.

Fritz Hansen describes a special Refurbish programme for Series 7 and other models. This is the manufacturer’s own programme, with its own terms. Møbelpartner’s assessment and quote do not indicate participation in that programme.

Repair before reupholstery

A new cover will not fix a weak structure. If you want both addressed, describe the damage first. On the page about reupholstering of 7’er chairs you can read about material choices and the importance of the existing padding.

A quote must specify which parts are being repaired, whether the surface or upholstery is affected, and if there are reservations requiring physical inspection. See also the common price guide.

What determines the price?

The extent of the damage, the construction and the desired surface determine the work. Hidden damage may require a physical inspection before the price can be set.
