Custom-made outdoor cushions for your garden furniture

Outdoor made-to-measure cushions must fit more than just the size of the seat. Rain, sun, ventilation and storage have an impact on material choice. Therefore, describe whether the cushions are under cover, exposed directly to the weather or taken in after use.

At Møbelpartner you can have your inquiry assessed based on the furniture and the conditions on the terrace or in the garden. Fabric, filling, and execution must be confirmed for the specific use before an order is placed.

Water-repellent is not the same as waterproof

The properties of a material must be documented for the specific quality. For example, Sunbrella describes their fabric for outdoor cushions as water-repellent rather than completely waterproof. This does not in itself say anything about all finished cushions' seams, zippers and filling. Read the material supplier's explanation.

Therefore, state how much water the cushions can be exposed to, and how they dry. This page is not an indication that a specific fabric collection or water-tight construction is included in all quotes.

Describe the base

An open slatted seat has different ventilation conditions from a closed box or solid board. Send photos of the furniture without cushions so the base is visible. Also tell us whether the cushions sit against a wall or close to a backrest.

If the furniture has sharp edges, protrusions, or screws, these must be shown. The upholstery must fit the actual location, and any issues with the furniture itself should be addressed separately.

Measurements, division and fastening

Measure the seat and back separately. Note front and back edges on angled shapes, and show corners or cutouts on a sketch. Long cushions can be practical to divide if they are frequently carried in and stored.

Describe wishes for straps or other attachment methods. Show where they can be positioned without hindering the use of the furniture. An attachment method must suit the frame and cannot be chosen solely based on the cushion's size.

Storage and care are part of the choice

Tell us where the cushions should be stored overnight and outside the season. A storage room or a cushion box does not automatically solve problems with moisture if wet cushions are stacked tightly together. Follow the specific instructions for the agreed material and the finished cushion.

Clarify whether the cover must be removable, and how it may be cleaned. Machine washing, spot treatment, and use of special cleaning agents must follow the material's instructions. Do not choose a care method based solely on the colour or the textile's appearance.

What should your enquiry include?

Send measurements and photos with quantity, desired thickness and description of location. Add whether you want new cushions, new upholstery or an assessment of existing contents.

A quote must be linked to the approved material, construction and usage. Price and delivery can only be clarified once that information is in place.

An outdoor fabric does not make the whole cushion waterproof. Plan upholstery, filling, seams, ventilation and storage according to the terrace where the cushion is to be used.
