New weaving for the chair seat and back
Chair weaving must suit the furniture’s construction. Material, pattern and fastening are interconnected, so a worn seat cannot be assessed by colour alone. Møbelpartner can help with different weaving techniques and restoration.

The model is useful, but images of your specific chair are still required. Previous work, repairs and wear can change the scope.
Find your type of weaving

| Envelope weave | Sections that converge towards the centre of the seat. |
| Flat weave | A flat woven seat and the attachment under the seat frame. |
| Cane-strip weaving | Flat strips, their width and pattern |
| French caning | The open pattern and holes or a groove along the frame. |
| Woven webbing | Wide bands, overlap and fittings or other fastenings. |
The table helps you choose the relevant page. Material and technique must be confirmed from the furniture itself. Two chairs with a similar appearance may be built differently.
New weaving or repair of the frame?
A worn seat and a loose wooden frame are different problems. Specify if the chair wobbles, has cracks or moves in a joint. New weaving is not in itself a repair of the woodwork.
Repairs may be needed before the chair is rewoven. If you want sanding or a different finish, this must also be agreed before work starts. See furniture repair and examples of restored furniture to understand the different parts of a restoration.
Colour and existing patina
Tell us if you wish to preserve the chair's character or change it. New material may look different from old weaving that has been exposed to light and use. On a set of chairs it can therefore be relevant to consider the whole set rather than just one seat.
If you wish for a specific colour or dimension of the material, it must be agreed for the specific model. The original design and attachment of the furniture set the boundaries for the possibilities.
How much does new chair weaving cost?
The price depends on model, technique, area, quantity and the condition of the seat or backrest. Disassembly and work on the frame can alter the task. An armchair with both woven seat and backrest cannot be compared directly with a dining chair with a single seat.

Send photos of the chair from three angles
A photograph of the whole chair, one of the weaving and one of the underside is a good starting point. Add close-ups of breaks or loose joints. Specify the quantity, material preferences and any model name.
