Made-to-measure bench cushions to fit your space
A bench cushion must suit both the seating surface and the way the bench is used. A cushion between two walls requires different considerations from one on a freestanding bench. If the bench has a lid or storage, these must remain accessible.

Measure the bench and the desired cushion separately
Note the bench's seat width and depth. Measure both front and back edges if the bench is narrower at the rear. Show any armrests, protrusions, tubes or panels that limit the space.
Please specify whether the cushion should be placed between fixed sides or finish visibly on an open edge. This determines what must be considered for the final fit. Do not specify a random deduction; agree on the difference between the measured space and the cushion's finished dimensions.
The thickness changes the seating height
A higher cushion changes the distance to the tabletop and backrest. Therefore, please measure the current height from floor to seat surface. Specify whether the bench is used for short stays, meals, or longer periods.
On a narrow bench, the relationship between depth, thickness and back cushion may be important. A large back cushion reduces the usable seat depth. Describe seat and back together if you want both.
Box benches and benches with storage
Show how the lid opens, and where hinges or handles are located. A long, single cushion can be more difficult to move than several smaller parts. Therefore, consider whether a division would suit your way of using the bench better.
Fixation must also not prevent opening. Specify whether you wish loose cushions, straps, or another solution. The specific fixation must suit the furniture and be agreed in advance.
Cushion for a windowsill, alcove or daybed
A window seat or alcove may have uneven walls and corners. A sketch showing every side and marking the front is more useful than one length measurement. Show whether the cushion must be removable without severe bending.
A daybed can be used both for sitting and lying down. Describe both applications if they are relevant. The choice of filling must be clarified based on usage and cannot be determined solely by the furniture's name.
Cover, colour and cleaning
Please specify the desired colour and finish, and whether the cushion should be reversible. If you wish for a removable cover, ensure the position of the zip is practical. Washability depends on the specific material and does not automatically follow from the cover being removable.
If the bench will be used outdoors, made-to-measure outdoor cushions is the relevant material guide. For an indoor bench, describe ordinary use, cleaning preferences and any colour references.
