Envelope weaving for your chair seat
Envelope weaving is recognisable by the sections of the seat that converge towards the centre to form an envelope-like pattern. When the weaving is worn, both the material and the frame around which it is woven should be assessed.

The pattern and the material are not the same thing
Envelope weaving describes the construction of the weave. The material type, thickness and colour must be clarified separately. Send a close-up image where the individual threads can be seen, and an image of the whole seat.
An old seat may have changed colour and tension through use. Therefore, new material should not be ordered solely based on the colour of a worn photo. State whether the aim is to preserve the chair's existing expression or to achieve a different appearance.
When should the seat be assessed?
Visible breaks, loose threads or a seat that has changed shape are relevant to show. Stains and colour differences are a different type of problem than breaks in the material. Therefore, describe both the cosmetic and the functional.
A localised damage does not automatically mean a small repair is the right solution. The remaining weaving condition and the possibility of achieving a cohesive finish must be assessed. Do not cut threads before the task is resolved.
The frame must be able to carry the new seat
Show joints and any cracks around the seat. New weaving does not replace a repair of the wooden frame. If you also wish to have the wood treated, the order must be agreed upon, so materials and surfaces match together.
For several chairs it is useful to photograph them together and show differences individually. Label them if one chair has a special damage or a different surface than the rest.

Send photos for assessment with quantity and wishes for the weaving. If you do not know the model, it is no problem. An overview photo and a photo of the underside will help identify the task.
